Archway School
About
Archway School has built a thirty-five year reputation for providing students a unique environment in which to develop academic and personal excellence. A comprehensive and rigorous academic curriculum, small classes, and close relationships between students and teachers are the hallmarks of an Archway School education. Field and camping trips, inquiry-based science labs, media classes in our state of the art Mac lab, College Preparatory math curriculum in the middle school, and project-based social studies are rich in content and critical thinking skill development. A complement of electives, enrichment classes, after-school programs, sports teams, student council, conflict manager training, and advisory classes offer students a range of ways to learn and explore new skills in a familiar and supportive environment.Equal in importance to our academic curricula are programs in community building, personal responsibility and social/emotional growth.
We are located on two campuses four miles apart--with Kindergarten through Fourth Graders in Oakland and Fifth through Eighth Graders in Berkeley. A daily campus shuttle is available to transport students to Berkeley in the morning and back to Oakland in the afternoons.
Our community represents a range of diversity in family background and structure, economic status, ethnicity, race, and religion. While most students live in Oakland or Berkeley many come from beyond the immediate area and as far away as American Canyon and Alameda.
A member of the East Bay Independent Schools Association (EBISA), People of Color in Independent Schools (POCIS), Independent Schools Business Officers Association (ISBOA), and a provisional member of the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) with full accreditation expected in December of 2008, Archway School is a program of Woods Edge, Inc., a non-profit corporation established in 1973.
