Community Service
Community service is a deeply held value at Archway. In a school where hands-on learning and discovery through inquiry are integral parts of curriculum, community service is a natural extension of our educational mission. The interests and passions of all school constituents (teachers, students, and parents) are the driving force behind community service projects.
Archway emphasizes curricular connections. For example, students in the 8th grade have volunteered to register voters as a way of expanding on their voting rights unit in American History. Lower Campus students learning about life cycles raise trout in the classroom to be released in the wild. Upper Campus students participate in an annual Lake Merritt clean up where they learn about the impact of pollution on the environment as well as about composting and recycling. Archway’s community service program reflects the value of giving back in the broader community, whether for environmental, civic, or community building purposes.
