Community
Central to Archway's mission is the notion that each person is a responsible member of a larger community. Guided by example, students gain experience by engaging in activities that foster community membership and leadership. At Archway, students participate in:
- community building games and play
- advisory groups and morning meetings
- gardening projects
- conflict resolution groups
Students also learn about and support the larger community by:
- volunteering at People’s Grocery
- visiting and singing at neighborhood retirement facilities
- participating in Lake Merritt cleanup and local creek restoration
- volunteering for voter registration
- visiting and serving at local homeless shelters
And, there are always many opportunities for our parent community to connect:
- Archway Parent Teacher Association (APTA)
- back to school picnic in August
- fall Harvest Festival and winter Multicultural Potluck
- Walkathon in April
- Art and Poetry Night in May
- class coffees
- teacher appreciation lunches
- room parents
- field trips and camping trips
- school tours
