The Archway Community
Archway School is an extraordinary learning community, one in which all constituents partner in the mission to develop lifelong learning habits. Central to Archway's mission is the notion that each person is a responsible member of a larger community, not only the school and classroom, but the neighborhood, regional, and global community as well. Archway graduates have a fire inside them and the desire to advocate for a variety of causes. They are natural leaders, empowered by the sustained nurturing atmosphere that Archway provided throughout their K-8 experience.
Multi-age learning, community building, advisory, buddies, gardening, conflict resolution, cross campus field trips, and morning meetings are examples of internal efforts to maintain our community. Externally, students volunteer at People’s Grocery, neighborhood retirement facilities, Lake Merritt clean up, local creek restoration, voter registration and local homeless shelters. Community activities help students understand of giving back to the community. Opportunities for our parent community to connect also abound. There is the harvest festival, the winter potluck, the Walkathon, camping trip,s and class coffees hosted in a family’s home.
